It there a device other than using the search on the scanner that can tell you what frequency a radio is putting out. I will call it a "reader" for lack of better words. Like where you could hold the radio and the "reader" together and it will tell you the frequency? Is there a program you can download on a computer that may do this? Im wanting to figure out the frequencies that we use at work. I would just ask, but i know that the managers at work would never give the workers that info.

Thanks for any help.

A frequency counter will tell you what the transmit frequency is, but not the receive frequency which may be different. An example of this is the OptoElectronics Scout or better yet the Explorer model whiich will also read the PL or DPL of the transmit frequency.

There is NO universal program for all radios, but each radio manufacture has software when used with the appropriate cable and software(and in some cases also what is called a RIB box) for each model will read from the radio its programed data.

What about "close call", signal stalker", or the one on the "PSR 500", I forgot the name of it, something "sweeper".

From your 1st post, you have BC340CRS, which does not have a frequency counter, and it is not software programmable. So unless you want to spring for a frequency counter, searching is the only way. You can also try looking up the name of the company/agency in the FCC database. Click on the Database link above, and then click on the Advanced Search options. then go to Search for FCC Entity, and enter the company name and state. Try entering partial names to because the full name may not be used on the FCC site. Your company may be leasing frequencies from a Radio Service, so you may have to try the proximity search next to the Entity Search to see what radio towers and frequencies are within a radius of your work place.
