Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knew the CTSS tones (I think that's what they are called) for the following:

453.30000 WQAP302 BM CSQ Fire / EMS D Fire / EMS Dispatch and patch FM Fire Dispatch

453.05000 WQAP302 BM CSQ Fire / EMS o EMS OPS1, Fire TAC 3/4 patch FM Fire-Talk

I just got a Baofeng portable radio and I just want to be able to listen to Fire operations and such. The radio picks up the transmissions with no issues...BUT, I wanted to see if I could block out all the static and interference by programming CTSS tones so the radio will only pick up NCC Fire communications.

Any and all help is appreciated!

Thanks!

Try the PL (CTCSS) scan feature of the Baofeng. The Miklor website has a how to.

Thanks W5PKY for the info. I guess what I need is the PL TONES for those frequencies. Any idea where I can find them?

Thanks!

PL and ctcss are the same. Read your manual and use the tone scan option. It will scan when the channel is active and tell you what the tone is.

What you posted above shows CSQ (carrier squelch) which means no tone is used.

CTCSS would be really great on 453.050.

I get some kind of noise on this channel. Short bursts of something. Very annoying. Get it on multiple radios, so I don't think it is an internal noise on the set.

Do you get this interference on this channel up your way, Joe? Was wondering if it was a local to DE.

SEPTA has 453.050 and a few other 453 MHz channels licensed to them. They are channels formerly used by Philly PD before they switched to 800 MHz. SEPTA was planning to make a trunk system for their police department using these frequencies but that never panned out. It seems that in order to keep the frequencies active there are constant key-ups / data bursts on these frequencies. They are in P25 digital mode with a 293 NAC. From what I've seen they're encrypted but no voice ever transmits - just sounds like a radio being keyed up.

I don't know if New Castle County has ever complained about this co-channel interference but since their channel is only used for pager simulcasts and not actual mission critical needs the only way they could eliminate the issue would be to either put a PL/DPL code on the channels or find another channel(s) to use.
