Just wondering how many Canadian departments are using the Unication G series pagers. Are they worth the money?

Are they worth the money is a relative statement to each user. To a person who has simulcast distortion issues on a scanner sure . But to a person who wants to pick up a VHF analog conventional channel, probably not.
Plus it's a commercial receiver and not field programmable like a scanner. A way different feature set.

Many services use the Motorola Minitor V and VI. These are cheaper option and function exceptionally well. The only limitation is they are only analog. The plus side is the CPS is readily available if you look for it and the programming stand is too. You also have the option in many area of getting the unit programmed by a radio shop if you ask nicely

Depends on which model you are looking at as well. The G5 is obviously a pricey option for an analog only department. In Michigan however, a lot of departments are doing P25 paging over the statewide trunked system while using the G5s. Around here, as mentioned earlier, counties like Brant that use DMR for paging are using them as well. On my department we used exclusively Minitors and got moved over to Swissphone. Fast forward a couple years and we are slowly migrating back to Mintor 6's. Only good things we can say about the Swissphones is that the are compact lol.
