When 911 dispatches a fire dept, why can I not here the fire dept talking back to 911? Whn a pager test occurs, I can usually here them respond, but when a actuall call is occuring, I cannot hear the fd respond back, all I can hear is the dispatcher.

What fire dept are you refering to?? (City, state, County, etc.)

If we know we can take a look at the system they are using and be of more help to you.

Thanks!

The other possibility is that you are listening to a non-simulcast of a trunked system in which only the transmissions from the dispatcher are relayed over the repeater (or simplex) frequency, while the return comms are not piped into it.

That is the way that clay county florida operates. When we disbanded from the Sheriff's Office (for fire dispatching) many moons ago. All our main frequencies went to simplex frequencies, even before our 800 system came into existence. They still have the repeaters for dispatching only. So your county could be on an 800MHz system and you don't know it. Therefore, you would only hear the dispatchers talking. Or it could be a conventional system like Clay County Florida used to be many moons ago were you would hear your local fire department go responding or en-route or 10-51 or whatever codes they use, only when they are like within 5 miles of the nearest scanner. The only time that I ever hear my station go responding on VHF is on a rainy day, when and if we have abandoned our 800 system for that one day (for new dispatchers), I am roughly 6-8 miles from my fire station, I never hear them unless they are out by my house on a clear day. 90% of the time on the 800 system I will hear them go responding.

It is a repeater frequency and you should be able to pick them up. I would check with someone from the FD and see if perhaps they are just utilizing 154.295 for dispatch and are responding on different frequs. A lot of areas use a frequency for dispatch and another for response, ops, fireground, etc.

Good luck!!

Holy crap...there is virtually no scanner info out there for your county. I searched all over the web. Perhaps if you post this in the Alabama forum you may get some local help.

Good luck!

Try the following frequencies dude. 154.4150 is the Hamilton FD Channel according to National Police Call CD. Also try 153.9500 which is also a Mariion County Fire Channel. May not be much help but I think it will be good help.

After checking the RR database, VHF High, repeater system, has PL ( 77.0 ), NO trunked sysyem listed? Just guessing but do they possibly have a second frequencie for response, I know theres not one listed but that does not always mean it isn't out there, try a search in the vhf high range during the next dispatch. :( See above post that maybe the frequencie you need !

Another possibility is that they have the ability to shut the repeater off. The dispatchers would still hear all the traffic on the input, but listening to the output one would only hear the dispatcher.
