Anyone know where I can find one?

The fire quadrants for Independence FD is something programmed into the cad for each address. The fire department has the quadrant maps, but even dispatch (when I was there in 2002) did not have a copy. Good luck with that......

It's my understanding that the IPD uses the fire quadrant map to help officers (mainly newer ones) locate where they are being dispatched quicker.
I hear them use it all the time and thought I could use it for the same purpose.

Yeah, you're right........I think the PD side is using the quadrants too. That's a change since I left in 2002.

Hey, a familiar face above my post!

IPD just started using the quadrants recently.
Fire has used them for a long time.

I've been searching for these too. I am sure they are divided up, just like KCPD has eastzone, centerzone, etc.

If I do happen to stumble upon something, I will post it. Chances are though, it's an internam city thing that's not available to the public.

Exactly. It really doesn't do you (the civilian scanner buff) much good. If you have a computer, MapQuest the address, or just get a general understanding of the numbering system and you'll be fine.

Independence runs mostly off of the Kansas City numbering system so most streets are either East or South. The old historical part of Independence is in the old numbering system, which is bordered by Forest on the west (by Indep. Regional Hospital), approximately Lee's Summit Rd. on the east, approximately 24 Hwy on the north and approximately 25th street on the south (I think). The dividing line for east and west is Main St. and the dividing line for north & south is Lexington. In that area, the numbers will not be over 4 digits and will be north, south, east or west.

Outside of the area in the KC numbering system the numbers will be 5 digits if an east/west street and will be "##### E. Street name". The north/south streets will not be over 4 digits and will mostly be South address, with a few north.

The Kansas City numbering system is divided by St. John north and south and Main St. east and west. So for example, Sterling Ave. is the 11200 block. That means Sterling is 112 blocks east of Main St. in KCMO. Noland Rd. is the 14000 block, so it's 140 blocks east of Main St. 23rd Street is obviously 23 blocks south of St. John in KCMO.

Hope that helps..........and clarifies that quaddrants won't really help you all that much.

Yes, that is a help.

I am from here an know the majority of streets, cross streets, neighborhoods and where most fire stations are. I just thought it would add to the fun of scanning if I could pin point a location on the map and since they use the quadrant map I thought I would use it too. Most of the time I already know where they are going.

I live on the North side and a majority of the pd calls are for the Hawthorne area and Hocker Heights. I am in between them.

Thanks

Nick, when I worked for AAA of Missouri and dispatched road service calls in the KCMO area it was a breeze because of their grided street system. I had at the time a very nice list of major streets and how many blocks they were west or east of Main (KCKS was a differant story). We used Gallup Graphical Street Guides for dispatch purposes. St. Louis AAA dispatch (and corresponding CAD system) used the Laclede Gas grid book.

Yeah, if you have a street guide (with hundred blocks) that's all you need to find any place in the city. The KCMO numbering system is used in Kansas City, Independence and all of Johnson County, so it's pretty nice.

Heck, I'm almost 400 blocks west of Main St!

Alternative!

I just use microsoft streets & trips software. I do an address search and it brings up a list. Just select the one for that area and it will take you there. You can also double click on the marker and enter whatever data you want, fire, disturbance etc. Just as long as you save the map to a file name you will always have the Data.

I have differant maps for all sorts of catagories. Storms, public saftey, breakins. Many differant types and colors of push pin can be used. I have all fire depts in my area marked with red dots, police depts with blue dots etc.

Not to mention all the tools at your disposal. For example (measure distance, location finder for gps cordin.) and much much more.

I hope this is of some help......

P.S. It can also be used with a pocket pc for mobile applications.

You may be able to get an old copy from the fire department, but I doubt it. Anyway, I've seen plenty of them, nothing special, but they also have the fire districts on there as well. As an explorer with IFD I can tell you that one time someone suggested we learn the quadrants, but they told us that it was useless because they never try to learn them. If anyone has anymore questions about IFD, I'll try to answer them. And Nick (this is FireDeptFanatic by the way) one of our meetings we went to the dispatch center, and they do have a map there now.
