Fire radio codes in CT

Do CT FD's use a standard set of radio codes statewide or by region or does each FD set their own radio codes? I'm interested in getting the codes for FD's in the northern New Haven County area. Thanks.

A lot of FD/EMS are moving to "plain speech". There is a Department of Homeland Security National Incident Management System requirement that says they will only use plain language when in mutual aid scenarios. Because of this, many are removing codes altogether. Google "DHS NIMS plain" for a boatload more on that topic.

With that being said, the easiest way to find the codes if they are not online is just to listen. If possible, listen to PD and FD at the same time as they respond together to many calls. It only takes a couple of key words to figure out what some of the codes are. Listening to MEDNET and CMED can also help clear up some of the EMS codes.

Thanks for the information. I've been able to figure out some of the Meriden codes by listening to the FD and PD at the same time. The FD sometimes strings codes together which makes it difficult. For example, 9-5 means off radio. Sometimes they'll say "9-5 at station", easy enough. Other times they'll say something like "9-5, 3-0" or "9-5, 3-2".
