I am going to be in the Virginia area (specifically Farifax Co, Arlington, D.C. areas). After being in more rural areas I have never needed a digital scanner, but now it appears most of the public safety organizations down in that area use trunking systems with digital voice. Does someone have sort of a hit list of good fire/ems/rescue freqs (including simulcasts) I can pick up in the area? I know almost all the talkgroups are digital voice, but often (even in CT) some of the talkgroups will be analog voice, and this fact is known only to those who monitor them regularly.

Fairfax County is all digital for all public safety. They no longer simulcast anything. Public works is on an analog trunking system.

The following Fire Departments simulcast on VHF.

Montgomery County, MD, District of Columbia (D.C.), and Prince William. Check the databse here for more.
