The current fire travel channel frequencies ( a federal system ) are being re-farmed by the feds, and will no longer be available for use as of the coming fire season.

The state is scrambling for a replacement, and it looks like the CESRS system (California Emergency Services Radio System) run by OES, is the likely replacement.

I don't know if there will be separate systems North and South, but the use of
CESRS for a fire travel net for strike teams is moving forward.

I show CESRS as:

154.980 input, various PL's depending on location
153.755 repeater output PL 192.8

Understood, but you only had to post this once. One or the other next time.

Ok whatever.

One was for public information, one was to add it to the database by whomever does that.

Next time it would also be nice if you weren't so abrupt with your "request".

A PM would be much more appropriate.

So consider this the last time I post anything of relevance here.

haha wayne at it again, the reason I have not submitted anything since his wonderful comment about my info being "half-assed", when he has no helpful or good information to suggest. Good job buddy, and the animal control tag, that'd be reason enough for me to drop you from my moderator list. Take your power trip elsewhere, most of us are friends here.

Ok, I'll sugar coat it next time. I did it publicly because it's an example others should be aware of. And, *I* and two or three others are the ones who add that information, with Dave probably the only one that really monitors that thread. So it wasn't necessary to duplicate the info; we get the idea. You could have provided it as a link. Obviously some of you need better suggestions for my requests so I'll try and do that in the future.

Some of you have issues with how I moderate, and so be it, but I don't do it to be a hard ass. There are reasons I ask or make the statements I do. I'm trying to keep some form of organization here. I do not approve of duplicating information; the forum archives are huge as it is so people need to keep this in mind. And if someone has a problem with me being blunt, that's tough, I'm going to call it the way I see it. This isn't nursery school here, nor is it a society of anarchy.

No surgar coating required. Common courtesy would be sufficient.
Apparently something you're not comfortable with, or incapable of.

Obviously some of you need better suggestions for my requests so I'll try and do that in the future.

So you do it to be what kind of ass specifically ? You create your OWN issues Wayne. You're one of the poorest choices of moderators I've seen on this forum.

There are reasons I ask or make the statements I do. I'm trying to keep some form of organization here.
Elaborating on that form of organization BEFORE you start *****ing at people about it would be appropriate.

Kind of important in a collaborative environment such as a forum. Some learned that skill in kindergarten. Some did not apparently.

Paying (and fact contributing) customers expect a modicum of civility from the "mods". Something which you do not possess, nor see a reason for apparently.

I'm "calling it the way I see it" as well.

Your definition of anarchy apparently needs to be expanded upon.

Your self importance is astounding.

Don't bother with your next reaction. I'll show myself the door.

trooperdude, I apologize for being too direct in my request. Sometimes I browse the forums quickly and shoot off posts without considering how others may view them; we all don't think before we post sometimes. I'll admit I should not have formed my reply the way I did.

It's official

Well it's official and now printed in the Communications Appendix in the 2007 FOG Guide:
http://www.firescope.org/ics-8x11-fog.htm

13. CALIFORNIA TRAVEL NET channel is no longer to be used after January 1, 2007. The
California Emergency Services Radio System (CESRS) may now be utilized as a travel net.
Strike Teams or other resources in travel status should use the CESRS DIRECT talk-
around channel for line-of-sight communications. Use of CESRS repeaters is limited to
those circumstances when users are not able to make contact using CESRS DIRECT. Use
is subject to an executed use agreement with OES.

For those of us that come to California often but don't live there - what's a Travel channel?

When groups of resources, such as strike teams, are traveling to/from assignments they use "Travel Net" to communicate among themselves as needed. They'll typically use it arrange rendezvous points, rest, meal, or repair stops, change travel routes, etc.

Bear in mind that a trip across California can occasionally exceed 800 miles and 12-14 hours driving time, so there are plenty of occasions for these folks to have to communicate among themselves. It's pretty much kept to necessary conversations, and seldom will you hear much idle chit-chat on there.

You will probably hear them a lot more now that Firescope has banned the use of FRS radios for any fire application.
