Fire Truck Identifiers in NYS

I was wondering if there was a list of what the letters in a Fire Truck's radio identifier meant (Like ETA for Engine Tanker, R for Rescue, Car is for Chiefs, etc.)

I know I have seen one before, but I can't find it on the internet.

In Orange County:

E - Engine
T - Truck (Ladder)
TA - Tanker
R - Rescue
M - Miscallenaous (Can be anything from Fire Police to Brush Fire to Collapse Rescue to boats)
Car - Chief's Vehicle

Other counties are different. Some use a numeric system where 1=Engine 2=Truck 3=Rescue etc.

This is usually decided at the county or local level and can vary throughout the state. Below is a list from NF2G.com for Saratoga County. Schoharie County uses an 4 digit number system.
First two numbers ID the department (Middleburgh 12)
Anything ending in 11-19 is an officer or chief IE Middleburgh FD Chief 1211
Engines end in 21 IE Middleburgh 1221
Engine Tankers 31 IE Middeburgh 1231
Tankers 41 IE Middleburgh 1241
Rescue Trucks End in 61
Brush vehicles 51
Ladders 81
EMS Units end in 91 IE Cobleskill 5091

In Suffolk, there are 10 towns [first digit] in each town the departments are numbered some what alphabetically [second digit] most engines, trucks, tankers and rescues are 1-14, most ambulances are 15+ [in Huntington ambulances are 5, 15, 25, 35, etc.]. Chiefs are 30-33 [third digit]. Town of Brookhaven, has more than 30 departments [fifth division] so departments 30+ go by 5A[ble]-xx-xx. HQs are xx-xx-0, and town dispatch centers are xx-0-0. Nassau is similar. They have 9 "Battalions". Their chiefs go by 00-03.

in oswego county each dept has a number so my dept is Cody its dept number is 7

Engine's 2(750 GPM) (not really used anymore)

So codys Tanker pumper is 741 meaninf 7 is the dept number 4 is the type of rig 1 cuz its the first one

Chemung County fire unit numbers are a combination of Dept. #, unit type, and number within the department.

I guess it can be a little confusing if you not used to it.

We used to use signal numbers and ten codes as communication, but that has been done away with. We now use just plain language. "Twenty thirty one is responding" or "twenty thirty one is on scene" etc.
The signal numbers generally were the same as 10 codes but there were some that were different. This sometimes caused confusion with the dispatchers so the decision was made to use just plain language.
