Firebuff and BAPERN, who are they and what do they do? I heard comms about an incident on a GMRS channel (21) could that be them? Any help would be appriceated.

Firebuff is/are what the name sounds like, groups of Firebuffs who have put up repeaters around the area who notify their members of active incidents occurring.

BAPERN is a Law Enforcement Radio System. Firebuffs are not at all associated with public safety, in some cases they are a public nusience. They are good for reporting fires so you can hear them on their freq. They also notify the news media of on going issues. not as importaint as BAPERN

Many Fire Buffs are members of the Public Safety Community and many of the others are news Photog's or starting news Photogs. Your comments about "Nusience" are typical of someone not knowledgable about the field.

Interesting read, thanks for the link. I'd love to see Sparky's pull up with a canteen truck at one of our fires. We used to keep a storage container full of snacks but now we just throw a couple of cases of water on the truck. Someone eventually makes a run to McDonalds if were on scene for a long time.

what did you hear on that ch.?

Since each manufactuer has a different channel plan, can you tell us what frequency
your Radio uses for Ch.21

Then we might be able to determine which Buff Network you are listening to.

Not all the manufacturers use the same channel indications. A friend of mine has two different pairs of radios and the channels don't match up. Tell us the frequency, don't go by the channel.

Citywide is on a Business channel, not GMRS

UGH, atleast it's not in CAPS, like the Dispatcher on there. ! Have locked them out long ago, due to his shouting. MRS was bad enough with they guy with the %^^%$ you key-chain.
