Does anyone have any information on this amplifier Firecracker 50 made by Transel Corp. in Indianapolis In.? If so I would sure like to be able get in touch for some help on this . Thanks Dale

To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:
Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.
To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.
The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.
For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

That's an old one. 50w max. It might be hard to find tubes for it, and the caps are probably all dried out & need replacing.

Thank for the reply Jassing I found a new tube and caps for it was trying to find a schematic or manual. Or picture of the back side of it to see which one was antenna and which one was radio the stickers were missing. Thanks again

I do not recall, but I think this is a "low drive" amp -- ie: feed it with 1 or 2watts. Running 4 watts into an amp that isn't designed for it shortens its life and can blow up an amp. (Don't ask me what happens when you feed a 1000 watt amp with 4 watts when it is expecting only 1)

If running at 3 watts gets you the full 50 watts out; running at 2 won't be that much different (40ish) that extra 10 watts isn't going to get you that much, and it will be easier on the amplifier & radio.
I tend to be more cautious when using amplifiers, push them too hard, they die and might take your radio with it. I would rather not get out as much and keep talking all day vs suddenly going off the air for a few days while I repair things.
I have midnight special & RM amps. They are all rated to accept 4 watts, but they caution you should use 1 to 2 to be easier. For that reason, I have modded my bearcat 980 to have a variable knob for power out - use an amplifier, dial it down to 1.5 ish; bear back, turn it back to 4ish. My other radios came with variable power ... Do I get the full rated power out? no, but they always work & I get out plenty when I need to.
Other than blowing up a 1K watt amplifier, the only time I've destroyed a radio or amplifier was when I was pushing 4 watts out. Once the same night I installed it; others at about a year or so of use. Caution goes a long way.
Another thing is most affordable (aka: cheap) amplifiers (tube or solid-state) do not handle 20 minutes of constant babble, they will overheat.
Oh, and yea... Amplifiers in the USA are illegal and shouldn't be used ;-)
