LPNF dispatch just radioed a request that all staff wear black bands on their service badges and lower station flags to half-staff due to the firefighter deaths in N. Cal.

A quick Google search shows, besides "National Park Service firefighter Andrew Palmer, 18, a firefighter with the Olympic National Park headquartered in Port Angeles, Wash. (who) died Friday evening", "(a)nother firefighter from Washington state is missing, and may have died battling a wildfire in Northern California."

That last story was just updated an hour ago at 3PM Sunday PDT.

ov. Schwarzenegger Issues Statement on Death of Washington State Fire Chief

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today released the following statement regarding the death of Fire Chief Daniel Packer, of Lake Tapps, WA:

“I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Fire Chief Daniel Packer, who gave his life while protecting our communities from the dangerous fires that have ravaged Northern California. We’ve had the most courageous men and women fighting throughout the state and Daniel was among them. His bravery and dedication will never be forgotten by the people of California. Maria and I join all Californians in extending our deepest condolences to Daniel’s family and friends.”

Packer, 49, died July 26, while working as a division supervisor on the Panther Fire in Siskiyou County. Packer was the fire chief of the East Pierce Fire and Rescue Unit in Bonney Lake, WA.

In honor of Fire Chief Daniel Packer, Capitol flags will be flown at half-staff.
