OK, I have had a 396 from day one and now also have a pair of 996's. (BTW, I also have a 2096).

I monitored a couple APCO 25 9600 baud Starcom21 (IL) sites recently and the 396 and 996 both display the Tower ID in Decimal while the same system/tower was ID'd in Hex on the 2096.

I can't recall ever noticing which format was used on the 996 but I could have sworn that when I first got my 396 that it displayed APCO25 tower ID's in Hex, just like the Pro2096 and Pro96.

Did a firmware upgrade on the 396 change this format and I just missed this? (I have 1.11.03 now, and have upgraded the 396 at least 3 times since I bought it in June 2005).

Are you saying you prefer Hex? Seems kinda confusing.

Both the 996 and 396 should display SysID as hex, and tower numer as decimal, is that what you are asking?
The PRO-96/2096 is hex only, SysID and tower.

No, I actually prefer Decimal, but, as has been pointed out elsewhere, having different formats can be confusing.

Yes, that is right, I just thought that the 396 originally used Hex on the Tower number as well, RDale advises that it has always been decimal thruout the firmware versions, so I must have been hallucinating (He tends to be right about these things...)

If you'll notice, the Radioreference Database tower numbers are in decimal. IMO, the decimal tower number is much easier to look for (and remember) than hex.

I totally agree that decimal is easier, I just thought the 396 had started out as Hex for Tower ID's in older firmware versions. It appears I was mistaken on that.
