Firmware?

No this is not a function of firmware. You can purchase PSREdit a software package to do this. But the radio does not know who you are listening too, ie; if tuned to a frequency or talk group the radio can't identify it as Delaware State Police. You have to tell the radio that such and such frequency in conventional mode is the Delaware SP or such and such talk group is DSP. No radio can do this automatically.

Firmware and Software are two different items, although firmware is software downloaded to the CPU of DSP to control the radio it is called firmware. Software on the other hand allows the user to custom configure the radio. This may be as clear as mud but to answer your question no there is no firmware to do this.

Software PSREdit of Win500 are both available in trial form so you can decide which you like and both have a forum under scanning software so you can locate them both that way. Or

I have been in scanning many years, no problem programming my 396 and my new PSR500 by hand but i do not understand the ways of this computer...I have downloaded the two new firmware DSP and CPU revisions to my desk-top, both are depicted as folders with a vice gripping them...When i try to open them clicking "open" under "file" nothing happens...Both say when i do click on them "four files uncompressed"...Where do i go from here-Thank You

You have to go into the C:\GRECOM folder open the 2 folders inside and read the info there. When the "four files uncompressed" was displayed the contents of the zip files was extracted. You need to use My Computer or Windows explorer open the folders and read the info there.

Also, make sure you read the PDF on how to install the Firmware (DSP,CPU Firmware). It calls for you to upgrade the CPU first. It also has some more info in there, but there's probably a very good reason on why they tell end users to upgrade the CPU firmware first.
