I tried to do the firmware update on the RH-96 and and after an hour it says lost connection and crashed. Now it just flashes the alert lights. Tried again same thing! WTF over!

Is it just me?

Take a deep breath :)

You can try it again if it didn't work.

Are you using the port on the bottom of the head?
It should be the same as the port on your radio.

Did you unzip the Download and unzip BC-RH96_V2_00_01.zip. so it is a .SCN file?
I'd Unzip it to the desktop so you can find it easy.

Did you use the BC_VUP_v2.0.0.7?
BCRH96FirmwareUpdate < UnidenMan4 < TWiki

Did you press the L/O, 6, and power the RH on?
The display will be blank, but will be on and orange.

Did you select the correct COM port in the pulldown menu?
There can be multiple ports to select.

firmware update

My seemed to update properly but afterwards would not connect to either my 396t or 396xt...sent back to uniden for repair. I guess it was the right thing to do...$$$

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPod; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Try a different computer. I had the same exact problem and almost cried. I tried virtually everything I could think of on the first comp..... Plugged it into my second comp, worked perfectly. So plug it into a different comp, run the update program and follow the instructions verbatim.
