Firmware Update

Hi. I have a PSR 500 and updated it. When i turn on the radio and press 3 it shows me what i firmware i downloaded into it. I have a question

IT SAYS
uP Appl Ver: U1.6
DSP app Ver:U1.3
DSP Voc Ver:F1.0

Can the DPS Voc Ver be upgraded and what is the difference between all of them? THanks. Bill

Ok, this is a guess as I'm sure Don will chime in. uP is the firmware version. The DSP app is the versionof the DSP firmware. Since the DSP does more than just decode P25 voice there is a version for specific changes for the voice decoding. This would be included in the DSP firmware upgrade and isn't separate.

"uP App" is the main operating firmware for the scanner. It's what is updated when new features are added, bugs are fixed, etc.

"DSP App" is primarily high-level P25 functions, but has some other "minor" functions. It has been updated a couple of times - usually in conjunction with a "uP App" release.

"DSP Voc" is the DVSI IMBE vocoder. It has never been updated (and likely never will be).

Just to add in case the user sees this on his scanner

uP Appl Ver:F1.6 - means its a factory 1.6
uP Appl Ver:U1.6 - means its an upgrade to 1.6

I have the same firmware versions on my new 500. Although it came out of the box with the U designator instead of a factory load.

I downloaded the software, unzipped the folder... it dissappeared! nothing to open or upload to the scanner. You guys must of found a neat trick to doing this. Larry - N7LWB

I guess it depends where it unzipped to....

in Windows try START - > SEARCH -> then type in *CPU500600* or *DSPCPU500600 (with the stars)
CPU obviously if you want to update the CPU, and DSP for the firmware.


If your doing the CPU you should find CPU500600_U13.exe
If your doing the DSP you should find DSP500600_U16.exe

(assuming you downloaded 1.3CPU and 1.6DSP and unzipped them)
