• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm looking to update the firmware on a pair of CP200's. Current firmware is 3.04.02 and might get it to 3.07.03. I'm using a USB cable with CPS 5.16.

There's a separate executable to upgrade the firmware and in reviewing the steps I'm confused on the process of getting the radio into flash upgrade mode.

I have it set to the right COM port and the program has a selection for data rate (19,200, 38,400 and 115,200) when you select "Program". I'm not sure which one to select as it's oriented towards a RIB with Flash Adapter, or a RIB-Less with Flash Adapter.

It also shows 3 steps to start the upgrade with the last step to remove the battery then reconnect. When I initially started the upgrade program the radio chirped which I assume is an indication the radio and program see each other. I'm not sure about the battery thing.

Now there's not really anything in the new firmware I need so I could skip it. But I'd like to know the correct process...

I've never seen the USB programming cable for the CP200. I have an RLN5583B flash adapter for firmware updating for use with a RIB.

The CPS instructions are geared towards the RIB and not the USB. I'm in no hurry anyway. I still need to track down the release notes for the versions between 3.04 and 3.07. If there';s nothing special I'll leave the radios as is.

Do you really need to pull the battery and put it back on to get the radio into flash mode?
