Firmware version?

I just got my radio about 5 minutes ago, how do I tell what firmware version I have in the radio? I also took my fingernail and scratched the lettering on the case very hard and it didn't rub off. The case is like a bit shiny black back and a matte black flat finish front, maybe I have a 'fixed' silkscreen version.

hit the menue button, go to settings and there you will find firmware version.

Forget it, I have v. 1.06.00, how about the case though do you think I have a newer one?

JPM, are you in MD or IL? I really cant do anything yet, I have to run out in a few minutes and buy a serial cable adapter to a usb. I just bought a new computer last week and it has 7 USB ports and no serial ports except the printer and monitor. Oh well, I will be up and running soon. Now Baltimore isnt in the pre-programmed freqs so can I delete everything in the unit and start fresh? Also, I have v. 1.06.00 Which file do I download to get the firmware update. I see the bottom one is for the programming program, and then there are two more?

I read and found out how to reset master clear all the data and I did that. Now I can start from scratch. I hope I did the correct thing deleting all the pre-programmed info.. Baltimore, MD wasnt in there so why have all that other stuff I wouldn't use I figured.

I'm in Illinois but I have family out that way. When I first got my BCD396T I did the same as you and initialized it as the preprogrammed stuff didn't do me any good. In fact now I'm at 3% memory as I still have the nondigital bc250D. I believe you need the serial port to update the firmware.

You want the first one, Install_BC_VUP_v1.0.0.8.exe, to upgrade to 1.08. You want BCD396T_UASD_v1.2.2.2.exe to program your scanner. (You may also want to grab a copy of BCD396T_V1_08_07.scn while you're there - that's the data file for the 1.07 upgrade. I've seen a couple of posts that claim that 1.08 doesn't decode P25 systems as well as 1.07 did.
