A burglar AND a sex offender who cannot go without having a gun (he had a stolen gun when last arrested). That is a scary prospect when you know he will be looking for a place to get into.
And since the video shows him leaving the jail area at 9:29 and their headcount was at 10. And it no doubt took them a few minutes to do the head count and then react to it. The Jeffco SO aired at 10:07 for a patrol to come to the jail due to an escapee and as the first patrol arrived outside the jail at 10:10, dispatch told that arriving officer that the escape had just occurred. A 40 minute head start is about what he got on them though.
He was nowhere near that jail when they began looking for him.
