So far this MW DX season looks a bit promising.

I've had a couple new loggings -- nothing spectacular, but so far it's looking better than last Fall and Winter.

New stations are KFOY 1060 Reno with NBC Sports, and KSPD, a religious station from Boise, Idaho on 790 (350-400 miles away).

I keep hearing an Unidentified station on 1060 I'm sure is from Mexico City, but never can get an ID. I've heard it on my GE Superadio II and my Sangean PR-D5.

Times in UTC AND in local please.

UTC so I know when to listen, Local so I know what your propagation conditions would be like.

How to you 'wear out' a CCrane? Just curious.

Was it the tuner knob? Seems like it would be the weakest link in the chain.

I sometimes wonder about my PR-D5 -- the radio is built like a tank, but the tuner mechanism is probably the weakest part on it. Tuner 'encoders' have a lifetime of so many turns.... I saw the info on the one similar to the one used in a DX394 and it said something like 10,000 turns or something. In reality, they probably last longer if you keep them maintained with Deoxit late in life.

As for my PR-D5, I really like it, but the fidelity on AM sometimes makes me grab my Superadio instead. It hears everything but the Superadio has a wider bandwidth which makes it easier to catch ID's. I have one set of headphones that works best with my PR-D5, they're very flat response, cuts out some of the extra bass that comes through.

The radio I probably use most for MW listening and DXing is my Superadio.

You said "the pals wear out". What are these "pals" you are talking about?

As for the CCraneSW, adding a BNC probably wouldn't be much different than clipping the end of the wire antenna to your whip.

This is because the circuitry after it would be the same. With a lot of portables, you don't really get that much extra benefit from using an external antenna jack. It depends on the radio. Some more expensive portables have a little extra circuitry near the external antenna jack (maybe an extra RF amp transistor and a couple protection diodes), but many of them have the external jack connected to the same solder pad as the whip antenna.
