I've been a. member for about 6 months lurking a bit and would like to ask a question. I got started on this stuff by listening to one of the live feeds and enjoyed it very much. It was a local feed for the Tacoma, WA police dispatch.

Well that feed is no longer available and I understand it was discontinued when the person providing the feed moved. If the broadcast is still available and not encrypted or switched still, I'd like to take up where the other person left off and provide a live feed again.

Does anybody know if you can still get this broadcast and if so, what would I need to receive it and provide a feed for others?

Thanks so much!

Wow, I guess this wasn't my first post, I forgot I asked about this a few months ago, so you see I'm serious :)

Any advice appreciated!

Thanks fir the links!

Everything looks good so I am going to give this a shot. I'd prefer to buy the equipment locally so I can test and make sure it will work for me. The local radio shack is the closest store to me with anything remotely related to a scanner, but they have a limited selection 'in store'.

They do have the PRO-163 1000-Channel Triple Trunking Scanner but the 197 in store. Is this even something I should bother with? Is there an entry level to mid range scanner you, or anybody, might recommend to get me started?

Thanks again!

I purchased the 163 just to get my feet wet and although a little complex, I think I should be able to figure it out. I am having one difficulty maybe someone would be kind enough to point me to some documentation for.

I've looked and I have an idea of what they mean but confirmation or docs you could point me to would be great.

I hope this looks right in the post, but here is an example of the frequencies, I am interested in. Unfortunately I have not found a reference to what the 'type' abbreviations mean. For some, yeah, but most I cannot find. What does RM, M and BM mean for 'type'? I found a reference for different trunk types?? somewhere but these weren't listed.

154.13000 KOF221 BM 131.8 PL TMA FIRE Fire FM Deprecated
154.29500 KOF221 BM 131.8 PL TMA FIRE Fire FM Deprecated
866.10000 M 156.7 PL TMA F/P TALK Fire/Police Talk-Around FM Deprecated
460.15000 KOA801 RM 131.8 PL TMA PD NOR Police North FM Deprecated
460.05000 KOA801 RM 131.8 PL TMA PD SOU Police South FM Deprecated
460.35000 KOA801 RM 131.8 PL TMA RECOD Police Records FM Deprecated

453.22500 WPDD346 RM 192.8 PL TMA TAC2 Police Tactical 2 FM Deprecated

Thanks again for taking the time to look.

I don't live in Tacoma, WA but those frequencies look to be deprecated. Usually deprecated means that the frequencies are no longer in use, usually because the city/town/county has move to another system. According to the RR database the City of Tacoma has moved to the Tacoma/Puyallup Public Safety system.

I could be wrong since I don't live or monitor anywhere near Washington State, but you may want to double check if those frequencies are really what you're looking for. You may also want to check in the Washington State Forum for information that would be more local to what you're looking for.

However, to answer your question, if you look at the City of Tacoma link and place your mouse cursor at the top (heading) of the Type column you'll see that...

B=Base
M=Mobiles/Handhelds
R=Repeater
F=Fixed

I hope this helps.

The good news for you is that it appears that the system you want to monitor is analog trunked which means you may not need the expensive PRO-197 to listen.
Your PRO-163, which is an excellent scanner IMHO, should work just fine!

Yes, that's all I needed to do. I now have them tuned in. Next step is to learn how to program the talk groups correctly? I think that is what I need.

I programmed in the control frequencies and that worked but it's hard to follow sometimes because the conversation jumps around if you know what I mean.

I'll get it figured out. Thanks for the help getting started!
