Sometimes I hear units on 159.420 calling Surcom but do not hear the dispatcher acknowledge them on that freq. I thought they would be on 151.430 but this remains silent even when 159.420 is being used. Is there a different repeater output freq or am I missing something here?

Hi Brandon, I've noticed at times I can hear the dispatcher on the input of 159.42, but the mountain top they are accessing might be in Santa Barbara County or in San Diego County, and unless I use a good rooftop mounted antenna, I won't hear the repeater output of the dispatcher on 151.43 MHz.

What's odd is that my situation is the exact opposite. I hear the unit on 159.420 but not the dispatcher. At the same time I'll tune 151.430 but don't hear anything from either side. Isn't 159.420 an input or am I mistaken?

Thanks.

As someone said before, sometimes they are used as simplex channels. I've heard them used before in tactical operations.

Or, you just may not be close enough to hear the base unit if its being used as repeater input.
