Two people are dead after an apparent murder-suicide at a midtown hotel in Flagstaff this afternoon.
Around 2:15 p.m., Metro agents located the truck of a California man wanted on a $1 million bond for child molestation sex charges. He was staying at the Ramada Inn East, 2350 E. Lucky Lane. The man, who was in the parking area, saw Metro agents and dashed into his room. Officers closed in to hear someone inside the room "rack" a gun. About five to eight minutes after forming a perimeter around the room, officers heard two shots fired from within it. An "entry team" broke down the door and found two people -- a male and a female -- dead from gunshot wounds to the head.
Metro agents were responding to an alert from detectives from Oceanside, Calif. who had told local law enforcement that the wanted man was driving a particular truck and was probably in the Flagstaff area. Oceanside authorities had also said the man was considered not 'dangerous.'
Names of the two people are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
