Just to bring me up to speed,

I understand the OPP are digital in APCO 25 standards.

MOH where on line is analog.

How about MTO, MNR and other users?

Other than the Digital Properties, Is this system not just like any other trunking system? Or am I missing something very important.

Just trying to understand it all before I program it and possibly get frustrated, as I am already confused.

OPP, MTO Enforcement, MNR Conservation Officers and the City of Guelph are all digital.

MOH and the MTO maintenance guys are analog.

What type of scanner are you using? If it is one of the newer Uniden digital types, you are in luck; check Mike's (famous) "sticky" FAQ on this forum if you haven't already. Otherwise..

But I don't own a digital at this time, other than the opp, there is no digital user that interests me at present.

I do have a few friends who are Heavy Tow operators, and they enjoy there digital units for opp calls.

Smiths Falls dispatch expanding

Hi imcleish, and Mike.....from Eastern Ontario, near Kingston.

Yup, have been for a year here in Eastern Ontario.
Currently the OPP call centre in Smiths Falls takes OPP phone
calls and dispatches from the Quebec/Ontario border to
Lindsay, including along the 401 to Whitby and Algonquin Park.
They were supposed to expand back in Feb., but latest I heard
is mid-May....their area will expand from Lindsay all the way
to Georgian Bay, Muskoka, Parry Sound, and Burk's Falls
area. MOH is still on their old system here but will be changing
around the same time. There are MTO and MNR talk groups on
the digital system here. After this change-over, MTO officers currently
using the OPP dispatch centre in North Bay on the old NOR system,
if they travel to Burk's Falls/Sundridge/Huntsville area, will have to
switch over to the digital system and use Smiths Falls dispatch.
Orillia OPP dispatch centre will be loosing a lot of dispatch area,
and dispatchers. The good news is, having all that huge area handled
from Smiths Falls, through just one network server instead of two,
will save the province about a million dollars. But one has to wonder at what 'human' or 'service' cost ?

Pretty much, but as old radio systems wear out and get replaced, they
will probably be going digital, so depends on what you want to listen to.
