To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

At my Dept. we are programming all of our portable radios, TK-3180's, with Fleetsync so we can see who is keying up each time ( on all channels we use ) and to use the emergency button feature if needed. These radios are programmed with KPG-89D software. My question is is there any way to "mute" the data burst that has bee set for the beginning of transmission from coming thru the recieving TK-3180's? Having to hear the burst (chirp) every time a radio is keyed up is getting old fast. Thanks.

I believe in the channel entry screen for each channel you need to select PTT ID mute.

I have the mdc-1200 firmware in my radios and it has that option.

I've tried for this option before and two people have told me that it doesn't have that feature. There is an option for muting but I think its only for BOT transmissions, so if you have one radio talking to another, it will unmute after a certain delay so that the receiving radio will "miss" the burst, I don't think it actually mutes the data though...

Motorola radios have "Data operated squelch" (DOS) that functions anytime MSK data is detected and it seems to work very well. Alas, Kenwoods do not employ this feature. But as the above replies stated, there is a ID mute feature. It is, as Gezelle007 stated, a delay in unmuting the audio so the data burst is not heard. It is enabled on a per channel basis (channel edit window) so it can be turned on only for channels that use PTT IDs. The exact timing of the delay can be adjusted in the optional features window under either the trunking or conventional tab (whichever you are using)

Of course this works only for BOT IDs. If EOT is used, you're SOL.

I just found something called "FleetSync Burst Noise Reduction" in the FleetSync tab. It wasn't in the older version. I haven't tried it, but this may be something to think about.

help file

According to the "Help File" in the FPU.

FleetSync Burst Noise Reduction enables the capability to reduce the sound of incoming data burst tones when the transceiver receives FleetSync data.

When the transceiver receives an MSK data burst tone, the transceiver confirms whether or not the tone is FleetSync data. If it is FleetSync data, the transceiver mutes until the transceiver completes receiving FleetSync data.

the effectiveness of this feature is firmware dependent. I've had a couple of older (1.16 IIRC) 3180's that it had no effect on. Updating to 1.22 (most current) seemed to do the trick, though some of the MSK burst did come through on decode. It doesn't seem to mute MDC1200 (on 1.19 and above MDC1200 is available) like Motorola radios do with data operated squelch.

TK-3180 Fleetsync

When I look in my KPG-89D software under the fleetsync option I see on the General 1 tab the option for PTT ID Sidetone. According to the help file if you uncheck the box it should eliminate the chirp you are hearing. Hope this helps.
