I am a feeder to Flight radar 24, I am planning to feed ShipXplorer in the new year.

I plan to mount the ShipXplorer antenna on a side mount to the existing pole.

Ideally, what would be the minimum distance between the two?

Two conductive devices (the metal of the antenna element) in close proximity, can result in a directional pattern. Similar to how you'd make a Yagi directional array, the antenna can act as a reflector for the other one.

Ideally, you'd want them spaced far enough apart to prevent that. If I recall correctly, you'd want something like 1/2 wavelength at the lowest frequency. So, for the AIS antenna, I'd put about 2 feet between the two antennas. That'll be plenty for the ADS-B antenna.

Leave the ADS-B antenna at the top and move the AIS antenna further down with it facing the direction of the water vessels with the mast behind it. If the direction/pattern you wish to receive for AIS is more than 180 degrees then follow mmckenna’s advice.
