As of daylight Saturday morning in the ORlando area the major problem is no electricity. In Orange County the TRS towers survived, but there have been some failures of electrical supply from generators. Will probably have site trunking at times until the electricity is fully restored.

The county EOC has no water, no electric, sewer and many phone lines out. During the night the 911 system became overloaded. The 311 system was handling 600 calss per hour with 7 employees. Most cell phones are not working, due to lack of electricity. In the City of Orlando about 400 of the 600 sewer lift stations are not operating. In Orlando they expect it to take 5 to 7 days to get electricity to all homes.

In Osceloa county they had damage to a couple of fire stations and have the same problem with no power.

Bottom line major problem for radio systems is reliable power.

The number of fallen trees blocking streets is unbelievable. It will be days before streets are open.

Not sure of how the radio systems are working, but saw Miami-Dade Fire/ Rescue's USAR team in Punta Gorda doing S & R ops. Saw video clip of all the public safety agencies from all over the state streaming into town, Miami Dade included, and they for sure carry their portable command centers. At least this is what KENS5 locally showed.

I listened to the Kissimmee/Osceola County for most of the evening when Charlie hit. The system worked pretty good, although I could hear some interference (the users were reporting it too) that they attributed to the winds.

The EOC center did lose ALL power and were evacuated, so Osceola County FD was dispatching for Kissimmee from a console with a mobile radio for about 30 minutes, or so.

However, the next day the local governement folks asked everyone not to use their cell phones so they could use them to coordinate their activities, even though the system was working fine.
