This is an idea that hit me as i waited for this !@@#$%^&*(Computer to bootup. I have a UNiden 996T and am very happy with it I have been scannering for close to 50 yrs now and am to see the advantages of Trunking or for that matter Digital also Digital has so many dead spots and trunking is useless. Also computer screens in Scout Cars are very dangerious, the police don't want us using our cell phones but they ride around with a TV/
Computer screen in front of them. I don't dislike police indeed I retired after 27 years as a Police Officer. any way my question is, Has any one tried to receive HD FM Radio? The 996T is preprogrammed to receive standard FM Broadcasting but HD Broadcasting is of on a side band/Freq. 88.5 FM broadcasts Bluegrass music on their channel 2 out of Washington DC. The HD Broadcast standard in the US is the iBiquity IBOC (In Band On Channel). While it is a standard digital format, it isn't compatible with digital scanners (which use the P-25 standard). The issue is similar to attempting to receive Digital TV audio over a scanner, the format isn't compatible. Just remember that not everything digital uses the same format and only those that are compatible can be received and correctly decoded.

Probably won't work. The 996 is not built to understand the HD signal....best regards...Mike

No harm in asking

And who knows? If enough people ask for it maybe someday maybe it will be considered as an option for a future radio.
