Im really shocked how much havoc an FM broadcast station can cause with a crystal scanner. Im running 4 Bearcat crystal scanners and all the fire frequencies are trashed by the FM station. Funny thing is the station is at most 7 or 8 miles as the crow flies and 100,000 watts. I would think the distance would be far enough. I doubt its the crystals either. Im talking 4 fire freqs and I have duplicates of 3 of them.

i think if they are double conversion, and i think all crystal scanner's were you are going to get fm trash even worse.my fm station is right up the street.i used to be able to hear the tower portion from jfk ever so faintly on my 780. now with the 785 and pro-2006 i can't hear it with the fm garbage mixing in.my vhf public safety frequencies getted wiped sometime's too.

In a perfect world, if you've got the equipment to tune the filter, then certainly a tunable filter would be better. But I look at it like this; I have a different antenna to feed my FM broadcast receiver, and don't want FM broadcast going to my scanners. I'm close enough to several transmitters on several frequencies that I just wanted to remove it all.

I mis-spoke earlier when I wrote that the filter I purchased filters below 25 MHz. It actually filters below 30 MHz. That means I'm missing the CB band and 10 meter amateur band, stuff I don't listen to with a scanner if at all. And since I am close enough to other broadcasters, including AM, I felt the need to remove all that too; especially since the scanner doesn't tune anything below 25 MHz at best.
