the other day, in not quite sure when exactly... but i think it was sometime last week on my morning commute down hwy 62 into belleville from madoc i listened to the cbc north 106.9 out of huntsville then and i switched back and forth from 103.3 and 105.5 the moose out of parry sound and huntsville which was coming in loud and clear which is the farthest ive ever heard on vhf other than the lo band skip.. has anybody heard these stations from this far of a distance away? i find its pretty neat.. also the bear 106.9 often comes in pretty clear in the morning hours then goes away as the day goes on.. what other stations have you heard in the morning that were far away? im curious

I'm here a lot
If you are near a scanner in Toronto, right now (Thursday 10 am), the Western New York counties are coming in.

Most of the action is in the 420 - 454 range.

In the early hours this morning, I heard signals particularly in the 422-425MHz
range to the east of me, towards Montreal, which I don't usually hear.
One was a buzzy data signal (MDT?) on 422.8375 which nobody seems to
be able to ID, although it's an RCMP channel in S. Ont. This one is strong
in Smiths Falls, so coming from a different direction unless there's more
than one source.

VHF propogation was bit enhanced, but 800MHz didn't seem much different.

When the conditions are right it makes for great scanning> It might be nice to save a sticky for threads for skip. Perhaps we can report to the list when conditions are good for skip.

ya 422.8375 is some sort of MDT in smith falls area.. i remember in a thread a while back of someone hearing it thinking it was a CC for the RCMP system which it is not.. im thinkin its a MDT of maybe the RCMP or some utilities company maybe... someone could probably correct me on this though

What you are probably encountering is temperature inversion which, in turn, enhances groundwave signals. Not not uncommon around sunrise as the sun heats layers of the atmosphere; the differential is akin to a mirror. HTH.

This one is very strong right around the SF cop shoppe, and they have some UHF
folded dipoles on their tower, maybe just a coincidence. Some frequencies which are
not normally heard (and would otherwise be locked out) can serve as indicators of
enhanced prop.
