What is the difference between FM and WFM as far as the setting on the scanner when programming a conventional channel?? The 996 series show NFM, FM, and WFM as far as mode goes. I want to make sure I am using the correct mode for the 800mhz fed interop channels. I've been using FM. Is this OK??

The reason I am asking is that the 2016 version of NIFOG says that the 5 800 mhz interop channels are 25 khz wideband. I am wondering on the 996XT and 996P2 is FM or FMW 25 khz . The Uniden information that I've been able to find is not clear as to the difference between FM and FMW. I don't think FMN is correct for these channels.

NFM=12.5KHz
FM=25KHz
WFM is for TV channels and is wider than 25KHz.

There was a new FCC rule last year that made the national 800 MHz interop channels NFM (12.5 kHz bandwidth) the same as the high band and UHF. The NIFOG hasn't been updated. You should probably set the scanner to NFM. If the audio is louder than other stations then set it to FM.

WFM is 200 kHz bandwidth which is used on the commercial FM broadcast band.
