• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hi all,

I am wondering if someone can help me. I just ordered and received 3 brand new in box FNB-V86li batteries. Now I took one out of the box and put it on the charger (OEM VERTEX CD-16). Now as soon as I put it on the charger it shows green indicating it is fully charged. I tried taking it out and putting it back on with the same result. So I just left it on there for about 6 hours and took it off. I put it on two different radios and it is not powering on either radio. Any ideas on what to do? Or what could be wrong? I also tried the other two batteries I received and they are both doing the same thing. Now I put other OEM vertex batteries on the charger and they charge and work just fine. I'm lost, not sure what to do.

FYI: when I attach the battery to the radio and put it in the charger and turn the radio on, it does turn on.

That is because the charger base is supplying the power thru the battery but by passing the charging circuit.

Send the batteries back to were you got them and tell them what is going on.

Just for ???? were did you get them? I have been getting my batteries from Battery Universe for years for all kinds of device and have never had any problems with them.

Vertex says the charger to use for the FNB-V86Lia is CD-31 (VAC 920). I know that the CD-16 has
two different models. VAC800 which as i recall charges Ni-Cads and NiMh batts and the VAC810B
which, charges Lithium types.
Maybe the CD-16 will work with this batt too and is not listed by Vertex in the list I looked at.
I've noticed that sometimes the non-Vertex batts have the contact points on the batteries set in too
far in the battery case and will not make good contact with the charger or radio batt contacts.
As cabletech says you will probably have to send them back and get battery that works with your
radio/charger or get a charger that works with this battery.

The Vertex CD-16 seems to be a generic charger. Just came across a CD-16 (VAC520) that charges
the battery for the Vertex VX-510L (FM low band) portable. Looks like the "VACXXX" indicates what
battery/radio the CD-16 will work with.
