Needing a desk top stand for my new Uniden BCD436HP scanner, a forum post directed me to the "Desk Call" stand (by: "Cap Call") intended for cell phones. "25 Nov. Scanner Guys BCD436Hp Swivel Stand?" Amazon Listing for Desk Call Stand

My radio is held at a good viewing angle and its buttons can be pressed. The mount that holds the device rotates 360. Also, the mount’s support that attaches to the base, rotates 360 in the base. Because of the mount’s rotation from vertical to horizontal, a (Home Patrol) scanner owner whose radio is horizontally oriented (rather vertical like mine), provided a good Amazon review and a picture of his scanner mounted in it.

The mount’s side’s grip the radio well & release with a button push. Is the Desk Call the most robust stand? In a word, no. Some of the 3D printer fabricated stands are probably more stable. But they’re generally more costly and don’t swivel or rotate. So, for the price, the Desk Call definitely suited my needs, aesthetics & wallet. Oh, and if can hold my larger and heavier scanner, it would also be great for its intended purpose: as a cell phone holder.
USB Cables
Lastly, I wanted longer USB cables. So, I just received a 10’ and 15’ “USB 2.0 A Male, to Mini-B 5pin Male Cable, with Ferrite Core” today ($4.45 & $4.46 respectively). These were from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009GUP0S2?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1.

Both cables in Serial and Mass Storage modes, performed like the OEM cable received with the 436. I’ve been a fan of Monoprice cables and then their hardware for well over a decade. I’ve always found that Monoprice.com has great priced, good performing hardware. In fact, I purchased an 11-channel audio amplifier from them a couple years ago and it has performed flawlessly in our surround sound home theater.

Thanks for the tip on the cheap extra long cables, just ordered a couple myself..mainly for running off AC power instead of batteries for better reach. I picked up some usb-c double ended cables on a deal from Monoprice not too long ago. I think I got (9) 6 foot cables for something like 8 bucks total. Great quality too.

I was in the same boat for a stand for use in the car. I ended up using my cell phone cup holder stand and just cut a piece of pvc trim the same width as my phone to fit in the holder and threw a cb microphone holder clip on it. The scanner sits at a good angle with it and it's removable so I can use my phone mount for GPS if I need

Yeah, finding Monoprice wiring back in the dark-ages (so to speak) before Amazon, was a find! Cables such as serial ones were multiple times more expensive at local stores. Since then, as I previously mentioned, Monoprice has delved into hardware. For example, the subwoofers, surround sound processors and amplifiers sold with their nameplates have garnered excellent reviews, with pricing that is hard to beat...

I looked at the desk call stand but figured for my sds100 with the large battery in the back this would not work..instead I got. https://www.amazon.com/iFLEX-Adjustable-Phone-Stand-Tablet/dp/B07WWZLY94?th=1
this is fully flexible and can be formed around almost any portable radio…it takes a bit of work, but once formed it is great…again just best for me..but for the 436 the desk call would be fine..

The iFlex Adjustable stand looks like a great alternative, especially for the $11.99 price and because it would accompany the SDS101's battery pack. Posting such finds here in the RR forum is a great idea. I appreciated the original thread that pointed me to the Desk Call stand "25 Nov. Scanner Guys BCD436Hp Swivel Stand?" and now, there's the iFlex option.

It's always nice to know that a stand meant for something else (& at a conservative price), will work for our purposes. For example -- without a prior recommendation -- I obtained another stand that was similar to the Desk Call stand APPS2Car Cell Phone Stand. But the APPS2 stand wasn't nearly as nice or robust, as the Desk Call & I returned it.
