Did anyone in the Springfield area catch the article in the SJR Friday about the mayor trying to get funding for "new software" that is needed to replace/update radio equipment for the city. He said we desperately need it to replace "ancient" radio equipment. It is supposedly for improving comm's between city fire, police and court officials and the county. The software will cost approx. 10 million dollars and he was seeking at least 6 million from Washington in the form of a grant, but it didn't sound as if it is was going to be easy to get. What software would he be talking about? The city fire/police are already on a Motorola trunked (type 2) analog system. The county is on a vhf repeater and county fire is on a very old vhf simplex system. No further info was given in the article about what the software would do for the communications here. He did say that the improvements are needed now and that we would have them "very soon". Possibly wishfull thinking??
