I thought that some of you might like to know....

If you have ever monitored AFD during an EMS call, the Rural/Metro Ambulance responding with the fire engine will say something like "Medic 105 is responding to Alameda in 6"...6 being the ETA to the scene. This was required in R/M's protocols written by Aurora Fire for quite some time.

However, effective immediately, R/M rigs won't be giving their ETA's any longer. They are to give the closest major cross streets from which they are responding, apparently to give fire a better and more accurate idea of when they can expect their ambulance on scene if the engine is there first (which usually they are).

Just a random fact for those of you who might be wondering about the change when you hear it from now on.

Makes sense because responding units would probably like to know where other responders are, rather than how far out they think they are. It's all about responder safety...
