I think there is some, maybe a significant amount, of benefit to giving periodic updates even if it's just, "We haven't forgotten you, we're working on this, and it's bang my head on the wall level frustrating that we haven't goy the fix out yet."

As I've said, maybe in one of the multiple other, but almost identical threads over the past few days, I'll bet that there is a lot of stuff going on behind the scenes that UPMan can't talk about. He'll probably never be able to tell the entire story, as interesting as might be the story.

About all I'd admit to is understanding Upman's position on one hand, and on the other, how I (hopefully being your "average joe customer") appreciate updates every now and then, even if there is nothing of substance.

I really had no specific question/issue at the time I posted my comments.

I don't think it's really much different, other than in degree, than any other IT project. Modern radio systems, in which I include high end scanners, are as much IT as RF. Maybe even more.
IT comes with myriad sets of headaches.

We'll at least get some insight (maybe) into the travails of UPMan if Uniden announces a WiFi dongle swap out. Or even another recall campaign to update the WiFi hardware on the scanner itself. Which should not be construed by anyone that I have inside knowledge or are speculating that such will happen.

Other than that, at some point I expect a firmware update and release of Siren for Apple and then Android phones and tablets.

If the book is anything like the scanners, it will be missing chapters 5 and 8. The author will promise them, but he'll have difficulty writing those chapters, so we will never know for sure if we will get them.

Those chapters aren't needed to understand the ending, but a large part of the covers discussed them, and they give a better understanding of the whole story. He'll also release another book in the meantime, because authors can write more than one book at a time don't you know?
