• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I have a 2007 Ford Explorer with the gearshift on the floor. I have no room to install my radios or scanners unless I get another console---unless anyone has any ideas. If amyone has pix from their install I would appreciate it. Thanks....

We also have an 07 explorer and I have contemplated the same thing. Short of an aftermarket console or custom made one which my wife would never let happen since that is her vehicle, all I could come up with as a possibility would be losing the factory radio and replacing it with either a single DIN stereo and 1 piece of radio equipment of your choice or 2 more usefull radios with no stereo at all. Again not even an option for me because of the factory satellite radio and IPOD hookup but I did it in my F150. The Explorer should work the same.

08 Escape Modified

I ran into the same problem with an 08 Escape, absolutely no mounting room for my scanners and two way. The auto shifter was mounted right in the middle of the console, followed by the cupholders and an obnoxiously tall glove box thing. Only 8 screws hold the whole thing in place so I removed, analized the mechanical workings of the shift mechanism and measured what could be eliminated. Amazingly the are right behind the shift plate all the way to the rear floor seats was "dead space". I would be able to eliminate at least 28 t0 30 inches of dead plastic. Within an hour of searching the Ebay sites. I found a complete floor console, (same color) for $50. I took my measurements and applied to the salvage unit and went to work. Using a "Dremmel tool", jigsaw, files, and carpet knife, I trimmed to perfection. I was able to mount 3 scanners, 1 motorola, and 1 GE 2-way, as well as a power switcher, all in a neat row. Took about 2 days labor on and off, but it turned out great. Finished it out with some "push-on" rubber door trim channel, and it looks like it was made for the unit. The best part of the deal is I still have the original console and can re-install when I get rid of the vehicle.

I'd like to see them too. You'd think that with as much room as there is in the 08 Escapes, there'd be some room for a radio!

My 2006 Ford Explorer

These are pictures from last year. I have since swapped out the BC796's for 996's.

Looks good however I'm on the fence about the consoles in the newer Explorers with the floor shifter.

Is that the Jotto Desk console? I see the elbow pad at the back of the consoloe, but how many times has your elbow bumped one of your switches?

I see you have a RAM computer mount. I had a Jotto Desk computer mount in my Explorer, but never liked it. When I set up my Expedition, I bought a RAM mount. Much better IMHO.

Yes, this is a jotto console. I don't like it oo much. The display on the scanners gets hard to read when you're driving. The switches don't get bumped by me..but..my wife ..all of the time! I took the computer out of the vehicle due to it was more of a P.I.T.A. when it was time for a family vehicle. I got sick of removing it so it went to the basement spare parts box for now.

I do however like the console because of my last truck being a GMC Jimmy. I had to cut and hack to get the scanners and radios to fit in it.

I don't know what you've come up with yet. For my 2005 Explorer, I used a non-drilling approach. For the radio, a Yaesu FT-8800R, I separated the radio and used 3M tape on the nest for the control head and mounted it at the bottom of the dash, under the heater controls, not the control face cover. I mounted the radio chassis under the rear seat on the left side and velcroed it to the carpet. I used the Yaesu SP-7 speaker and mounted it on the left side of the console, just forward of where the console ends.. There is a nice bracket there that I just placed the speaker bracket around and mounded the speaker to the speaker bracket. All wires are hidden under the kick boards and there is enough gap between the console top and dash to hide the interface wire. All you can see for the wiring is where it comes out under the rear seat.
