I hear quite a bit of traffic on 168.725 here in Pike National Forest, but it is almost all fire related. Does anyone know what freqs are used by the National Forest Service law enforcement officers in this area?

I assume they can run plates etc, but I don't hear them on any of the forest frequencies I have loaded.

Well, I thought I had a pretty good list but it might be a little outdated, last time I checked it worked well though. It's from 2000 so I can't gurantee it but it should be close.

Most of them use 168.725 for freq. out But the inputs are different.

Descrition, out, input
Pike Direct 168.725 168.725
Badger Flats repeater 168.725 168.125 Tone in=136.5
North Teller County repeater 168.725 168.125 Tone in=146.2
Pike Peak repeater 168.725 168.125 Tone in=167.9
Colo Spgs repeater 168.725 168.125 Tone in=110.9
Work Groups 168.6
Command 1 168.075
Command 2 168.075 170.45
Command 3 168.1
Command 4 168.1 170.45
Command 5 168.075
Command 6 168.075 170.425
Tac 1 168.6
Tac 2 168.2
Tac 3 168.05
Crew talk 162.1
Air Guard 168.625

Hope this helps. I have heard units dispatched and status taken on 168.725

If you find a better list please post it here so we all can share it.

Thanks,
Kevin

In Larimer county I hear them running plates etc on the sheriff VHF channels.

I’d listen to the local law frequencies and see what you hear. In Boulder County (Roosevelt NF), they commonly appear on the Sheriff's system (GREEN, YELLOW, RED 1/3/6, etc.). Their callsigns are “Forest Service XX” at least on those channels.

This may be unique since it seems like every agency that operates in the County pops up on the County channels from time to time – probably because they have a great system that’s highly interoperable since it’s good old VHF conventional.

It would make sense for them to share the Teller county sheriffs VHF system but I have never heard them on it. I listen to that system everyday.

The other sheriff departments further north are on DTRS. Pretty sure the National Forest enforcement guys are not on DTRS.

DTRS and USFS

They have 800mhz p25 radios and use them, I'm not sure how often but I have heard Pike NF rangers on the El-Paso county system on EPSO 1 and 2 working to locate a possible stolen vehicle. Remember that they are federal LE and probably have what ever radio and channel they want. For example durring the search for Jarod Jensens murderer the ATF and FBI both popped up on CSPD goldhill 1 within minutes. I would asume that the USFS has the same capabilities but uses them far more infrequently. A good test might be monitoring the El-Paso county system with Woodland Park PD or DTRS on the DCSO channels or JCSO (may have to be very patient)? Analog in teller county would be good as well. I remember an incident some years ago on guanella pass where a ranger was on the Clear Creek VHF system....

From the WIKI
Frequency Type Description
166.4625 BM Federal Law Enforcement Common

That is my 2 cents, good luck.

FYI - In roosevelt NF, larimer county, they use the 169.175 system as well as running plates on 154.385 (Firenet/LCSO VHF Ch-4) as rick said

Great input so far, thanks to all.

The search continues. My good friend Cryptolog here in Woodland Park continues to search 162-174 and I have opened up the local El Paso and DTRS towers to try and find them. We will post up what we find.
