I like competition - it is healthy.

I wanted to like this scanner and I do still like Whistler - I am just not fond of this model...But love lots of their other products.

Glad some people can chuckle and take this light hearted...

Yes, if only there were true competition. If only there were true options.

EZ Scan is crap, you're dead on there... But don't be too quick to dong the build quality of the radios. Have you looked inside? Whistler does some serious shielding. Compare and "contrast" the front end components of the two brands.

Once you get over the programming and operation differences, it's really a gamble which will work best in a particular situation.

Seems like you upset some of the atheists. I guess internet forums naturally draw those hostile to Christ.

Gotcha...you know I do miss the days of seeing inside these scanners...

Does anyone else remember the good old days when you popped open your Pro-2004 or Pro-2005 to do the Cellular Phone range clip. And there were other mods. I miss seeing the inside of scanners.

Anyone out of warranty dare to open a BCD535HP - would love to see this beast inside.

I did that when it first came out, see it at http://forums.radioreference.com/uniden-tech-support/283316-bcd536hp-discriminator-inside-look.html

I have also looked inside my TRX-1 and TRX-2, they both have the same type of construction as the current Uniden's, with multi-level PCB's, SMD's and shielded RF sections. I don't have pics to share right now but they really don't look all that different in the inside as the other radios out there right now.

I remember my first scanner, had 8 red lights and I had to open the back, slide it all out, and insert 8 tiny crystals.

Greg, didn't you just get a TRX-2 like 12 hours ago? You better confess...

Yes I did. They take the original box, wrap a piece of cardboard around it, and ship it that way. I had one good dent in the cardboard box, but the original box underneath only had a very small "wrinkle" on one corner. I took it all out and all looks okay; it definitely is a new product.

I will not have time to even start playing with it for another 2 days most likely. Its painful, but I must have all my work done around the house as well as all paperwork, bills, etc,. must be done first. My wife's 60 year old brother lives with as as he is almost totally disabled. Not only is there a lot of work I must do for him medically, but a ton of insurance docs and whatever come in for him daily.

Fortunately for him I was an RN before I met my wife. With all his tubes and drains I get to play nurse again and he stays out of nursing homes.

Sorry I rambled on. I could go back and delete this whole story but it would take too long..lol. I will update everyone who is interested for sure once I get it running and it works right. (or wrong:() Greg

So, I'm not completely done work for the day, so I just cut it off early at 4:30 thinking there is no harm in just plugging in the TRX-2 and give it my zip code. I'm stalling as I'm afraid it won't work.

Anyhow, recently I went and uninstalled all the TRX-1 and 2 EZ scan software thru the device manager/remove programs and features. I hear its NOT best to have this installed when I connect the TRX-2 to the USB cable the first time.

However, then I did a search for any EZ Scan software on my computer, and it pops up everywhere. It seems to have intertwined itself thru out my entire computer.

Any advice on this? Since I removed the software thru device manager, is it now safe to plug into the USB? Any advice appreciated. Thanks. Greg

The wrong driver is the main thing people say causes an issue, not necessarily the EZScan software itself. I'm not sure what OS version you have on your computer (Win7, Win10, whatever) but there's that thread about Whistler Scanners and Windows 10 that someone had posted some information in that may be of help (that may be what you're referring to, though) even if not on Win10.

Thank you for the reply. My Whistler is whistling like a canary on just my zip code and stock antenna. Thats good enough for now. Driver comes down the road but not to long. Thanks again.

This unit looked nothing like my first, and even the SD card in this was a real step up from before. More later. Have a good night. Greg

If you buy a Whistler scanner, then you must sit in the Comfy Chair.

Forgive me father for I have sinned - I went to the darkside and purchased a TR* because it promised me a better life with future NXDN / MotoTRBO with no fees. And I had to touch Ez-Scan software.(yuck)

After working with that unit I could see how tempermental it was and the scanning was not any better. And I know the build quality is not the same.

Oh I am sorry and truly repent.
For it is the Sentinel Software and Upman that supports us. I am ashamed of trying the other side.

But now I am back with an HP-2 on the way and possibly a BCD536HP in my near future.

Want to unload it cheap? Show me another RADIO that will have NXDN in it along with DMR? I am not talking about DSD but an actual radio you can walk around with or put on your desk.
