Military frequencies aren't distributed by the FCC

And, if these System Managers believe that this basic information can possibly cause interference to the system, they're not very bright. Since most are Motorola systems, you need the System Key which is nearly impossible to obtain.

Folks,

We removed access to the Fort Bragg Trunked system information per the following:

Letter Received From Lt Col Wyrtki

Interesting... I've often wondered how they feel about that kind of thing... This is the first time I've actually seen them act on it though.

well this proves the oxymoron of military intelligence. The man apparently does not know that all we have to do is put a scanner into search mode and find the frequencies if we are sitting right outside his gate. I just have to wonder what is so danged secret about the police and fire channels. I'ts not like the 82 airborne operates off of that TRS

Well, I guess I have to go to all the way back to Bragg and scan for them since I got everything except the 800 freqs saved before they were erased from the database.
When we were stationed there I enjoyed listening, but there wasn't anything sensitive to be heard.

I'm guessing the only reason why so many have made requests like this to this site in particular, is simply because the site is so easy to find, due to it's popularity. They probably haven't contacted many other people, because they don't even know they're out there.

I'm sure this won't be a popular opinion but... I personally don't think it's always a good idea to post the military stuff in such detail. I don't say that because I think it's always a big security risk... I say that because I know people in the government can/could view it as that, and take great steps to try and prohibit, or block monitoring altogether. Which would obviously be a bad thing for the hobby. In these days of paranoia, I don't think it's a big stretch to envision a scenario where some big expose is done on 'how anyone can monitor America's military', by a news agency looking for something sensationalistic to report. That in turn could lead to a call for laws being made, systems being changed... and next thing you know, the hobby isn't what it use to be.

I've always felt that people into the mil stuff are kind of a different breed... I think most actually enjoy the challenge of a puzzle, like to figure out how things work, and accept the extra effort it takes compared to PD and other civilian stuff. In that sense, those people truly into it are always going to find stuff, even if lists aren't widely published. Whether we like it or not, it is the duty of the people involved in military comms to create the most secure comms possible... If that's they're responsibility, that's what they're going to do... If they see a reason to try and improve on that, then they are going to. So if publishing stuff makes those people in charge nervous, why push it?

Just my opinion.

Just use Trunker/T4WIN, whatever you like and you'll have all the data you need with the exception of the names of the talk groups. Just listen and you'll figure them out. Not hard at all. Time consuming, but not hard.

The opposite of cooperating with requests like this is a law being passed that could have drastic impact on our hobby or a federal requirment that all systems be encrypted.

I know that Lindsay made a tough decision when he established the remove on request policy, but he is the one that would be hassled if the power of the federal government thought it should use every possible agency, IRS and others, to go after him.

I think he made a reasonable compromise.

I have to agree with Lindsay, Gill and Dave on this one. Lindsay did the right thing here.

Think of it this way (especially if you're a ham operator): our personal information (i.e., phone number, address, etc.) is easily available online thanks to search engines like Google and the like. This info is also basically in the public domain via telephone directories, FCC call sign database, etc. Yes, the information is out there and for the most part easily obtainable. With that being said, I'm sure that most of us would be very uncomfortable with that same information being posted on a major web site for all the world to see.

From the tone of the 8 or so letters that Lindsay has received asking for info to be removed, some of the authors have taken this approach and have simply asked that the info be made less easily accessible than it would otherwise be. [Of course, at least one of them seemed a bit confrontational, but that's a story for another time...]

Does anyone have the Ft. Bragg info they would send by email? I have Camp Legune and Cherry Point that I can swap.

Remember all trunk systems can be downloaded in a .pdf format for all donating members. They can be saved for future reference if anything should be removed from the DB :)

In the RRDB, go to the system you want to listen to, and then click the "PDF" button near the top right.
