Commo,
If they follow the rest of DOD, it will be a M/A-Com system, but it shouldn't be EDACS it will be P25 digital like the system going into the Washington Dc area.
All of these systems are supposed to be compatible.....

P25 = Project 25 = APCO 25

It is a "standard" of digital voice (and data) format. Motorola uses it mostly (M/A Com has their ProVoice), but other manufacturers can use it also (M/A Com, E.F. Johnson, etc). If you want to hear a sample of it, tune to your local airport's TSA. Every airport that I have been as, TSA uses APCO25 (P25) digital voice.

If you want more info, there is LOTS of it in the APCO-25 forum on this website.

If you want to listen to P25 (in the clear - not encrypted), you will need a digital scanner. Some include the Bearcat 296, and 796, and the Pro-96.

i have the bc-250d so i guess i will need the card, but it seems to run as much as buying a new scanner almost....

btw, the installation of new radio system has started already

You might hold out until you figure out if it's going to be digital at all (clear (non-encrypted) at least - the press release just says digital). I'll probably be going through there next week, so I'll have to scan around to see if it's up yet....

Any activity on the Fed bands? Anyone know if that new system is in? I'm curious. West Point put one in on the same bid, and theirs was VHF digital (thought to be P-25, but no one is certain yet).

Can someone in Lawton give us an update???

Ft Bragg NC LMRS

I recently found 3 control channels:
380.925
381.075
384.075
I was at Bragg this weekend and they were not active. Looks asthough Bragg might have 2 systems 1 for Ft Bragg/18th ABN CORP and 1 for ARSOC.

Fort Sill will probably get the same type of system as "The Academy" at West Point.

Fort Sill is scheduled to get new radio equipment.

Trying to get information on the Fort Sill matter. Nothing new is being found or heard. Same applies to a few "birdies", they are not singing a new song yet.

This systems seems to be online now - after 2 1/2 years since the original post!

CC = 385.325 MHz
Broadcasting as system "0023" (hex), site #101.

The scanner that I had in the car for Unitrunker was not able to go that low, so I'll have to visit again with another "tapped" radio soon to get other info...

Congrats to Ft. Sill for having the first P25 trunked (9600) system in the state of OK.

It seemed to have decent range. It's very strong while travelling on I-44 just NE of Lawton (probably where the site(s) is (are)). I could pick it up good enough to decode (easily) to all the way to the I-44 rest stop just east of Chickasha. I don't know that it would propogate very well to the NW though - if you can hear the Lawton (Site 19) Smartzone site, I would think you could hear this though. Let us know if you can hear - let's see how big of an area this could cover!

Don't forget - this needs to be programmed as "P25" not Motorola Type I or II or UHF...

We just got our new IP7100 Portable radios for this system. It is working some decent a few little glitches but it does have good clarity, better than the old VHF system. There are two sites I know of on the radio is says on is in medicine park area and the other is on the range east range side. I will update as I learn more.

I should have elaborated more...
For the 996,

Hit Menu - Program System
New System
Select: "MOT TYPE 2/P25"
Go into the new system and "Edit Site"
Add Site
Site type needs to be "APCO 25"
Enter the freq: 385.325

You should be ready to scan it (enter the name and all that if you wish - as well as a quick key).

Pay no attention to the original thread's subject - it was just speculation back then (original post thought M/A Com meant only EDACS - but they do P25 systems also). Now that we know what type of system, no - it is not able to be "trunked" with a 250d (although you could listen to the voice). Only scanners out that will trunk this system are the Uniden 296, 396, 796, or 996 and the GRE/Rat Shack Pro 96, 2096 or PSR500. (isn't it funny how many of those models have "96" in their title?? ;) )

Stephen, Thanks for the other info - I would imagine this is the NE site on the east side of the base. I would venture to bet it's a simulcast and not really two "sites" - just two locations with the same freqs. When you say "just got" the radios - how long ago? Perhaps you could share some of the channel names on your radio (not sure if you're allowed to do that, but it makes figuring it all out a little easier) or some of the users anyhow...

My section has had the radios for only a little over a week now. Range control were the first to go to the system I believe. Just a note in case you haven't figured it out, they are using encryption I believe on most talk groups. Law Enforcement for the most part and I believe Fire and Medical will also be encrypted. I will update further later on.
