I just came back from a trip to Arlington and was wondering about the Ft. Worth system. I noticed the central talkgroups on the Ft. Worth system are not used, do they work off of a different patrol channel or is there a type o in the database.

Fort Worth PD has 4 patrol divisions North, South, East and West. Each of the patrol divisions has its own dispatch and associated talk groups. There is currently no central patrol division and therefore those talk groups are not used for dispatch. The central talk channels are used for various special events. The downtown area is dispatched off of North Patrol and will be Adam Units. If you want to know more let me know.

Thanks for the info, I have been back and forth from SA to Arlington the past few weeks and have been going through the hiring process of becoming a dispatcher with them. Are there any rumors about anybody else going digital besides Mansfield and Grand Prairie?

Check out the 11/16/04 headline here: http://www.bensware.com/scandfw
I also heard the same thing is happening in Plano.

If the Nextel deal goes through, all public safety users in the NPSPSAC band
(866-869/821-824 MHz) will be relocated to either 700 MHz or 851-866/806-
821 MHz. Since there is not much spectrum available in the 851-866 range
in RF saturated places like the DFW area, I think most of the public safety
users will end up on 700 MHz digital. The main roadblock to that
happening is the remaining UHF TV stations (I think 68 is the only one
here) have to move first, and that might not happen for up to 10 years
or more.
