Forum Question

Is this place really a forum?? Too much of "move post here because xyz..etc" or wrong "Forum".. in the end...who cares. We are smart enough to figure it out.

You might be smart enough to figure it out but not everybody is.

We leave a note in a moved thread so hopefully the poster will learn to check all available forums for the correct forum next time.

The correct subject in the correct forum is important to permit accurate search functions.

Good point.

Another reason we leave a reply is so the OP knows where the thread went.

Most times we leave an expiring redirect but if the OP doesn't return before the redirect expires, the email notification of the reply will direct them back to their thread.

Most of the time when I move a post/thread it's to get the topic more visibility.

A question about a Uniden scanner in the SDR forum probably won't result in very many useful responses...other than it should be in the Uniden forum. :lol:

Of all the forums I visit, I always thought that this one had just the right amount of moderation. The mods are firm but fair, and nearly always explain why they took the action. My hats off to 'em.

I am a firm believer in the "he who moderates least, moderates best" theory of forum administration. Given the volume of posts this site sees, the mods are only addressing a small percentage of posts. The forum, and more accurately, this site have been around for quite some time and is only one facet of a very successful business model. Given the number of posting members, I do not foresee its demise anytime within my lifetime.

I'll put together some daily stats when I get a chance.

So far just for today, we've had 165 posts and 7 reported posts and 1 warning issued.
