I have a question for you fox hunters how would I locate a intercom hidden in a wall or soffit ? My friend lives in a house that use to be connected with the house next store they had intercoms to commutation
they where covered over but not removed. They where Oracle Wireless Portable Intercom I guess they last like 2 -3 years on batteries and are always on. Rather then tar out the walls which are plaster with wire mess . I thought of using a metal detector but the wire mess is being picked up. I tried my pro 95 handheld in 900 mode but the people that make the intercom said that would not work . You can hear it but can not tell where it is coming from it is very faint. At first the owner thought it was just out side noise. We had a bad storm and it started after that. How can we trace it down ? I guess they used 3/8 dry wall
and covered everything in the building. I told my friend I would ask on here that sounds like fox hunting is looking for transmitters and this would be like it. I think it fell down and is in the ceiling. I never thought a intercom could last 2-3 years being on all the time till someone told me about the Oracle brand. Any help would be appreciated. I am not sure it is this brand I am guessing only because the intercom last so long on batterys
we tried turning off the power to see if it was connected but did not stop the noise.

Using Signal Stalker

I don't think the Pro 95 handheld has signal stalker. But I know a few people that have scanners. I will see if they have Signal Stalker on them.We looked in a couple spots and found a sipee cup and two match box cars LOL >...I am begining to think it might be an animal . I will look on ebay and see if they make a device that looks for signals. And we have been looking outside for signs of animals.. Thanks ..If anyone else has any ideas your advice would be helpfull... Plus do they make something like Signal Stalker which have a strength meter ?

No

How would an external signal strength meter know what freq the scanner was tuned to?

You would have to modify the scanner to tap off the agc voltage and route that to an
external meter - probably a digital volt meter.

Thanks I guess I will just by the meter rather then try to mod my pro 95 I don't have knowledge to make that tap.

I am curious as to what meter you will buy and where you will obtain it.

I have never seen any kind of signal strength meter made for the Pro 95 scanner
as an add on device other than someone they may be tech savy making one.

I went and Googled that intercom, and for at least the version I looked at - it was operating at 900 Mhz. I didn't see it specifically mention FHSS (frequency hopping spread spectrum), but it says there are "125 digital channels" and it would be my guess that they are probably frequency-hopping radios (i.e. meaning they would change frequency in synchronized fashion in very quick succession, making it difficult or near impossible to monitor reliably with a scanner).

But, if the version you have is a 900 Mhz version, you at least know what frequency range you need to sniff out.

We purchased a radio freq meter it does not attach to the radio but it has a strenght meter and reads from 100 mhz to 3 gigs in analog or digital . We found it is not on the 900 band . We where just guessing on the brand. The intercom from oracle had a long battery life. There is a telephone pole 20 feet from the house in back and the problem started after a storm. the meter works great we tested it with cell phone and wireless phone and guitar bug that is wireless . I located them easy . Most old baby monitors are on 900 Mhz . So we are thinking it is not the old intercom then what is it ? We are thinking about drilling small holes in the area and using a camera they use in pipe drains someone suggested. It is an older house then just blow in insulation after we are done before patching the holes .We marked the studs . Maybe a nest of critters ..We wondered why all of a sudden the intercom would come on but it was all we could think of. If nothing else we will get the house insulated ..;)

I believe you are referring to an "rf field strength" meter and not a "signal strength" meter.
Big difference between the two.

I really do not know what the heck you are talking about with the house. I must have missed
something???

Try one of those stupid "RF Bug Finders". They work short range and work on 800Mhz+. That way its just signal meter and you dont need to know the freq.
