Well...this is a new one! I just heard James City County Police dispatched to a call of a "Fox in a house" at a residence in Governor's Land (off Route 5).

They just updated the call saying the Fox has bitten someone in the house.....bummer.

More to follow....

At 19:57, the fox now owns the house. The residents and police have evacuated and are awaiting Animal Control. The shift supervisor advised the officer on scene he could "increase the use of force".

At 20:20: the Fox is in custody.....

...presumably having his brain taken apart to see if he is rabid.

Not a good situation for the unlucky homeowner.

I'll bet the family was scared!

A few years ago, a raccoon chased my xyl's cat under and into our house. the cat escaped; fortunately for us there was only one way in/out of that space that it could fit through. It left; we were able to trap it the next night.

There is some humor in a fox invading a house......but it is a serious situation.

The problems we are now encountering is a increase in cases of rabid animals. There was a news report two days ago of a fox chasing golfers on a course in Hampton, Va. It was rabid (http://www.dailypress.com/news/dpnow-hptrabies.jan03,0,7572286.story ). Recently, a rabid coyote bit a person in Suffolk. Skunks, raccoons, fox, coyote, and opossums are all being found to have rabies. When animals lose their fear of humans because of feeding or rabies, we are in trouble. This will happen again.

I would not want to be the one to receive rabies vaccine injections. Take care in your encounter with wild animals and report any suspected cases of "ill" wildlife.

i am typing this for dad. a couple of months ago a fox attacked and bit a friend of ours, police , animal control and rescue were called out. he was bit 5 times on the leg. he beat fox off, he and cop went looking for fox and found him in some bushes, the cop shot 3 times and missed the fox at abt 20 feet, was told by our friend to go back to range and practice. fox came back couple of hours later and our friend killed it. its head was sent off and report came back, fox was rabid. after shots our friend is doing well. this also was in james city county.
