If you go to the database section on this site, a map of the us will come up, go to KY. state selection and then go to Franklin County, you can find what your looking for. You don't need help from anyone here.

Do the legwork yourself. That way you can pull all the frequencies your looking for.

Virtually all of Frankfort PD and Sheriff activity uses NEXEDGE.... Ditto for the Fire Department. There is no scanner that will monitor this at the present time.

Yeah - unfortunately all you hear is digital noise when these frequencies are programmed. Kinda frustrating when I travel between Louisville and Lexington. Hopefully the day will come when they do for NXDN what they did for ProVoice.

May I ask why these agencies are using NXDN and encrypted? Is there a major drug problem in Frankfort .Why is it that the KSP post that covers that county is in the clear and can be heard, Is there anything in Frankfort that is in the clear that can be monitored for Franklin County?

I believe Franklin County migrated to NXDN around the time for narrowbanding. My sense is that NXDN technology is less costly than other conventional/digital and Franklin County was probably trying to pinch as many pennies as possible.

As far as encryption goes, I can't offer anything that hasn't been said elsewhere. I'm not around that area enough to know if anything other than KSP is in the clear. Perhaps some state agencies are, but they may not talk much. (I spent a few years as a deputy state fire marshal and had a radio equipped vehicle. I could go weeks between radio conversations).

like ofd8001 said, as to why they went NXDN instead of P25 I think was a money saving thing. I can't answer as far as the encryption goes.

A couple of probable reasons - (1) once you have "NXDN" encryption is an inexpensive feature to add. (2) they like the idea of having a (reasonably) secure communications system.

I have heard several agencies comment on why they choose NXDN:

1) NXDN radios come with encryption for free unlike the $100's for that same capability with P25 radios. Even though I am not for encryption on public safety primary channels, I must respect them when they use my tax dollars effectively.

2) NXDN technology has better audio quality than P25.

3) NXDN radios are not much more expensive than analog radio vs. the high cost of P25 equipment.

4) Cost effective approach to do multi-site for improved coverage without having to change channels or purchase more options for each radio on the system (P25 conventional voting scan)

Even though departments can get some federal funding for P25, nothing is for free and the overall cost of NXDN is so much cheaper the cost can be not much more than what they would have to pay anyway.
