Anyone know the talkgroup ids for the city plows?

In the database, City of Columbus Public Works (Infrastructure Management, which is a new name, something like the umpteenth new name in the last five years).

Also on MARCS-IP. Franklin County Engineer is listed in the database, very clearly identified.

I've been listening to this system since it first came on the air, but I want to see if anyone in the same area(ish) as me is having the same issue. I live in Lewis Center, just north of Polaris Parkway. On the south side of Alum Creek Dam for those who are familiar.

I have never been able to receive this system reliably. The only sites I can receive is the Franklin County site, and the Riverview (Delaware County) site. I never can pick up the Columbus City system, and thus am unable to monitor CPD, CFD, and the like. This is unfortunate because in the same location, I could pick up Columbus loud and clear when they were using the old Smartnet system. When they went digital, that was the end of me listening to them. The Columbus tower at Lazelle Rd is only 7 miles from me, is that really beyond the reach of my setup even with a yagi? I find it irritating I can't pull in any Columbus communications.

I am using a TRX-2 with an external yagi antenna. I'm fully aware of the P25 simulcast distortion issue, just curious if others in the same area have an identical result.

Hi

Unfortunate you can not pick up the Columbus City MARCS. I would expect the Lazelle Rd Tower site would be well within your reception range, especially with a Yagi antenna (presume aimed properly, good coax and connections, etc). AntennaSearch - Search for Cell Towers, Cell Reception, Hidden Antennas and more.

I would also expect the P25 simulcast not to be much of an issue for regarding your location, use of a Yagi, and the tower site locations for Columbus City MARCS. What is the Yagi designed for regarding frequency coverage? Columbus City control channels are in the 850-860 MHz range, Franklin County MARCS are in the 857-860 MHz range, and Columbus MARCS is 773-775 MHz. The Franklin County tower in Westerville is almost in your backyard, so most any 700/800/900 MHz Yagi should receive it. You did not state, are you able to receive users on the Columbus MARCS system?

Do you have any other digital capable scanners to verify it is indeed your location/antenna set up vs. a scanner issue? Also, are you able to take your TRX-2 on a road trip, drive down to Polaris and give a listen. This would rule out a scanner/programming issue vs location/antenna.

Let us know how it goes.

Thank you for the reply. I'll look when I get home, but I know the antenna is spec'd for the 800 MHz range. Would 700Mhz performance be significantly impacted? For what it's worth, can't receive Columbus using the rubber duck on my PSR-500 either.

What I do receive, which is off the Riverview or Franklin County towers, comes in perfectly. And that's correct, I don't get a peep out of the Columbus City towers, nothing is received at all there.

I'll double check my frequencies and general programming this evening, to make sure I didn't goof and type in a frequency incorrectly. If that's not the issue, I'll strap it into my car and head over to my father's house in Clintonville to try it out there, haha. Thanks again for the help, and I'll keep you all posted.

For others familiar with the TRX-2, I currently have this set up as one system with multiple sites (1 site for each tower). As discussed in the GRE forum, I'll try making each site into it's own system. So have 1 "system" for each tower that needs programmed. Apparently that's supposed to help, from what I understand.

The Columbus system should be considered all one site, they use the same frequencies at all transmitters. I attached a propagation map I've made from the TowerCoverage web site. I use it as a reference for BDA designs from time to time. Anything green is better than -90 dBm. Anything red is between -90 and -105 dBm which is normally still usable at least has been for me.

I'm reading a spec put out by CFD for a BDA system at the planned station 16 replacement. They're listing the Columbus simulcast site control channels as 858.0125, 859.4375, 860.4875 & 859.4875. I could swear 859.2125 was the primary control. Maybe this is a planned change?

As far as reception goes with my SDS200 and my Austin Spectra I get solid reception to about the 79 mile marker on I-70 north on 71 to Sunbury and I can use the stock antenna at New Albany for Columbus City
