Over the past few months all my scanners have gone whacko on the franklin county ps system. Just now I've found out why this is happening. On one of the frequencies it seems thier is an odd signal/ birdie on it this frequency seems to bee holding up the scanner on this freq which causes it to recive all the traffic on that freq. it ignores the tlkgroups. The frequency is 857.9875 take a listen and see if you hear anything I've ruled out everything in my house including turning off the power and I still hear it. The site closest to me is the parsons ave site. If you listen carefully on it the county system walks on it. I've tried every scanner and they all do it also my xts 5000 which is affiliated gets stuck when scanning on a tlkgroup and produces the wrong traffic.

Now many outside things could do this the nearest cell tower is 1.5 miles from me so I don't think it's that.

Take a listen on that freq for the strange transmitter. It may be only locale to the parsons site. If anyone hears it report back. I'm not sure if its a county wide thing or a southern Columbus problem. I've also driven away from my house and it still does this. I'm really lost on this. Chime in as much as you want. if anyone has seen this or has happend to you. Also it only seems to be happening at night.

Well it's not a birdie. Birdies are signals generated within the receiver itself. I hear it on my BCD396XT downtown, at 1 bar. I still hear the normal transmissions at 5 bars, probably off the Rhodes tower. I drive by the Parsons site several times a week and have had no issues.
It is not a problem for me as I only program the control channels. Try scanning in control channel only mode without this frequency programmed if your scanner has that ability. It does explain some of the end code type problems I've read about. I heard they are working on this.

Ok I'll ditch birdie but what is this signal and it needs to be dealt with its sad that it affects even legit radios on the system. Ill talk to my friend in the morning about it. It's odd. I happend to just randomly notice my bct 15 sitting on a tlkgroup with two bars. went to the freq what do you know it was there. Thanks for your reply it elimantes my house a culprit so now I think it's a countywide thing.

Ill try cc only and compare it. This may be leading to the cross talk issue also.

Guys thanks for the insight. This helps to explain things. It seems that we need the option for CC only on the Homepatrol.

Is there anyone who can shed light on how to enable CC only mode for trunking?

Thanks!

Matt
