Hi there -

I just snagged a yagi to see if I could get rid of some simulcast issues. Can someone tell me where the tower locations are on RR?

Closest I could find was this map, but I'm not sure it is what I'm looking for:
https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?action=siteMap&sid=6643&type=rr

I thought I saw a post once that said there was one by the double water towers near Sawmill and 270 (I'm in Worthington).

Thanks...

Unfortunately the map you linked to won't show you the individual locations of simulcast towers, only a pin that is in the approximate center of the coverage area (or another location as determined by the DB admin).

First you have to decide which simulcast cell you are listening to. In the Columbus area you have Columbus MARCS, City of Columbus, and Franklin County to choose from. It depends on what you are listening to. Off the top of my head, I think that Columbus MARCS and City of Columbus share towers, so that makes things easier. The Franklin County towers are in different locations.

Probably the best thing to do is to go to the page for a simulcast cell. I'll use the City of Columbus cell as an example. https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?siteId=25927

From there, you can see two FCC callsigns associated with that cell. Click on them and you will see a map of the locations on those licenses. Those are individual tower sites.

Be careful to always look at all of the associated licenses; some tower sites may appear on one license and not others.

If you are in Worthington, the nearest simulcast tower for Columbus City and MARCS Columbus would probably be the Lazelle Road tower, which is up near Polaris (you can see it on those maps above). If you are trying to listen to one of the Franklin County sites, the nearest one is probably in Westerville. See here: https://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?fccCallsign=WNQQ217

Hope this helps.

I'll also mention that the scanner itself may play a large role in handling a simulcast system.

I found out the hard way (and by hard, I mean expensive) that I wasn't going to be able to receive quality audio with my BCD996XT, regardless of orientation or type of antenna. $500 later, my current BCD536HP solved the problem, right out of the box.

I'm super close to the lazelle rd tower. I can tell you Columbus marcs does not share that tower. Horrid simulcast distortion. If it was shared, I'd get the Same great signal on that, as I get for Columbus city.

MARCS and Columbus only share a few tower locations (I think three or four).
