The Public Safety personnel of Frederick County should be enraged by this, that they reduced a designed 12 tower system to an 8 tower system. Its bad enough that they have horrible coverage with a 5 tower system on analog, now they are adding digital and only 3 more towers.

County Commissoners saving money at its finest and placing public safety providers lives at risk.

This may be a dumb question, but what is the benefit of using digital other then the fact of being able to encrypt the signal or specific channel? I think they should focus on making communications alot better and get rid of the many dead spots in the county before going this route.

Digital trunking systems are capable of many more bells and whistles than their analog cousins, but the one notable thing that suffers with digital is the voice quality. Current digital systems never have the clear, easily understood audio of a good analog signal. This deficiency is made even worse when digital and analog "channels" are patched together, which is sometimes needed for interoperability between old and new systems.

Reviving this thread

Heard on the Sheriffs channel the other night, patrol units being sent to Hankeys Radio to have their radios upgraded. Comment was made about finishing off the entire shift.
